The moon's silver light flooded the gardens, brightening all that lay in the open, whilst at the same time darkening the shadows, creating contrast and mystery. The small lake, one of the features of the gardens, rested still with no waves, perfectly reflecting the earth's trabant and the stars, the milky way as milky above in the sky as on the water, millions of suns burning away their fuel millions of miles away, violently, but viewed from the far.. nothing more than soft twinkling lights...

Wings sat close to the small lake's shore, her back resting against one of the willow trees growing here, some of the branches so heavy with leaf, they had bent under the weight and were almost caressing the waters. She watched them looking as if they were reaching, but just about not able to touch, and it was a melancholic sight of sorts, although not truly sad, as it was clear sooner or later the branches would reach what they appeared to long for, but still, not quite there yet.
A bit like her understanding of this world, she thought, musing the strange parallel. No doubt sooner or later she would know all that she felt she should know, just that she didn't yet. She was reaching for knowledge like those branches seemed to be reaching for the water, and she turned slightly to stroke the tree as if to comfort it, assuring it that one night it would have all its cravings fulfilled, same as hopefully she would, and that all that they needed was patience.

No visitors to the gardens this night, or if there were any, they were obviously just as quietly enjoying the peace of the park as she was, considering she could not even hear a whisper or the turning of a pebble, and she was glad for that. Her mood was one of reflection and longing for solitude this evening. So much had happened in such a short time.. and she hadn't truly come to terms with it yet. Smiling, yes, she was good at smiling and making almost everything appear to others as if she viewed it as nothing but a game, which for the most part was indeed how she viewed things.. but finding herself chosen as the new owner of the castle and the gardens had brought a change forth within her. It was a new feeling - the feeling of responsibility...
Of course, she had been introduced to responsibility already due to her working hard to make her instructor and her clan proud, but this was different, this was about something having been given to her, for her to take care of, and it wasn't just the building and the gardens, but also the looking after Edward, the old human butler, as well as keeping the PARK GUARDIAN in employment, both now dependent on her to make the right decisions, to keep safe what both of them loved, and what she now loved, too.

Letting her gaze wander over the sparkling surface of the water towards where in the distance the silhouette of the castle like mansion loomed, a soft smile deepened around the corners of her lips... There was something about that building which almost made it feel alive to her. It was a creature in its own right, and it needed tender care, from the gates and walls surrounding it, to the path leading up to its heavy oaken doors, then the building itself - all of it needed looking after, needed her now, and the thought filled her with as much warmth as it filled her with fright. Would she be able to live up to the responsibilities others had decided to hand to her? Would she always make the right decisions, never stumble, always keep all as it should be kept?
Her eyes dropped, coming to rest on the still surface of the lake, and she sighed whilst watching the twinkling of the stars where in truth they didn't twinkle, no matter how perfect the illusion. To no one had she admitted this, not even Deaths Shadow, nor zonks, but a lot of the confidence she displayed was as much an illusion as those stars in the water... What lay beneath were the floods of her emotions, the currents of fear, worries of failure, and insecurities of a creature that still knew so little of this world, and although she was certain she would learn, sometimes she doubted she would ever fully become a part of this world, no matter how hard she may tried.

Her smile had slowly faded, and she swallowed hard after tugging a strand of her light mane behind her ear, watching one tiny white feather slowly sailing to the ground. Those feathers were just the obvious signs of her otherworldly nature, a quirk, something that gave her nicknames, but few realized how truly different she was. She looked like them, spoke like them, fed like them, but part of her would never really fit in with them; the part that was her connection with a different existence, one she could not fully remember, but still she knew she had once been something very alien to this world, and she wondered whether that part would also be what could lead to her failing in this realm of reality.

Seemingly out of nowhere a nightingale lifted its sweet voice and began to fill the night with its beautiful music. The silence was broken, and Wings closed her eyes to listen, leaning her head back against the tree trunk.
So many varying creatures in this world, what did one more matter? And even if she was different to them all, and even if she would never truly fit in, she had responsibility now and would have to somehow find the strength to live up to it, even if the thought scared her.

Opening her eyes again, she looked down to find the small white feather, then picked it from the grass and held it in her outstretched hand. They did not come as often anymore, those feathers, and she wondered whether one night she may would stop leaking them all together, but whilst she held this one now, she decided to concentrate on it, and moments later it was transformed into a small mountain of glittery dust on her palm. It drained her, this 'magic', which was the reason she didn't generally use it anymore, but resting against the tree, she felt she could dare it, and with a soft blow, she let the dust rise into the night air, then watched how the glittery shower slowly and gracefully rained to the ground.

Gravity seemed a wonder, too.
Same as a nightingale singing.
So many wonders...
She just had to keep reminding herself how amazing this form of existence was, and that there was still so much to learn, and maybe then she would not fail and be able to make herself a home in this world, even if at times she was scared and even if she would never truly fit in with the rest of its creatures.

Rising from her resting place, Wings sent another gaze over to the castle. Time to check whether Edward needed her help, as there were still many sheets spread out over the antique furnishings. Only fair she'd help him. After all, the castle was now hers, enjoying it as well as working for it, included, and so she directed her steps towards the huge dark building, leaving the stars to sparkle on the water and create illusions for whoever else may would still visit the gardens tonight.

~ just follow the trail of feathers ~

Somehow I think what he really meant was:
"Father forgive them, for they are just too bloody stupid to know what they are doing..."
